Vietnam voted Sunday in an election officially described as a "great political event" even though the ruling communists were guaranteed to maintain power and the electorate seemed to lack enthusiasm.
More than 60 million people were eligible to cast ballots for 500 members of the National Assembly, widely regarded as becoming more outspoken despite being under communist control.
