Hanoi - Social network users were on Thursday rallying people to gather in Vietnam for a peaceful protest against China after patrol vessels allegedly damaged and harassed Vietnamese seismic survey ships.
The message calling on people to gather outside Chinese embassy in Hanoi and consulate in Saigon on Sunday was sent via Facebook, text message and personal blogs. It urged people to demonstrate peacefully and bring no weapons.

Tensions rise as Vietnam accuses China of sabotage
A video has been released apparently showing Chinese patrol boats cutting through a Vietnamese ship's oil exploration cable, as a growing territorial dispute engulfs the two countries.
Vietnam's foreign ministry held a rare news conference at the weekend, criticising Beijing over last Thursday's confrontation in the South China Sea, and accusing China of ratcheting up regional tensions.
Officials said three Chinese boats deliberately severed the survey ship's cable in Vietnamese waters by sailing through the area. They stressed that its navy ''will do everything necessary'' to protect Vietnam's sovereignty.
